Great question Amanda! There are natural gemstones and synthetic gemstones. Synthetic gemstones are lab created, and therefore, usually of a more intense, artificial color. They are also less expensive and depending on the stone, can scratch easier. Cubic zircons, a synthetic diamond, for example scratch and break a lot easier than authentic, natural diamonds. Natural stones, however, have flaws like feathers, "bubbles," or carbon in them.
